The road trip starts at the Tirana Airport to take you to the northern part of the country where you will see such gems as Burrel, Kukes, or Shkoder. After many kilometres around Northern Albania, you travel south to discover places like Durres, Vlore or Sarande; only to return to the start point of your trip the Tirana Airport.

After hitting the road, you will travel 97 km north to reach the scenic Burrel, known as the City of Apples. Along the way, the green landscape and blue horizon line will make your experience pretty pleasant.
Take SH34 road and drive north for approximately 195 km to reach your next stopover, Kukes. Along the way you will have the opportunity to visit Bjeshka Oroshit Park known for vast plateaus and beautiful hilltops dotting the landscape. Another extra stopover is possible at the banks of the Drin River.
Especially praised for the brilliant surroundings characterised by mountainous and high terrain, Kukes is another stopover of your road trip. While in the town, it is worth visiting such places as the Old Town that can boast a picturesque location at the confluence of two rivers, the Black Drin and the White Drin.
From Kukes, you travel west to Shkoder. While driving to this lovely town, there is a possibility to take a short break at the Buna River-Velipoja Protected Landscape. Through the windows of your vehicle, you will admire unique geological forms and dense flora that is home to numerous animal species. When you reach the nature reserve, you have only a few kilometres left to reach the town centre.
Shkoder dates back to the 4th century BC. The ancient atmosphere can be soaked up at every corner even if you decide to quickly pass through the streets of the city centre. The road signs will indicate that you are at a distance of 107 km from your next stopover, Durres. Head south passing such villages as Barbullush or Mamurras.
The trip from Shkoder to Durres will be a showcase of beautiful landscapes that are the quintessence of Albania. Through the car window, you will spot beautiful hilltops, green fields, and plenty of small settlements with unique ambiance. Follow SH2 road to reach the town centre of Durres, the beautiful summer coastal resort.
Durres is considered one of the most popular coastal towns in Albania. Therefore, your stopover in this town is not complete without a short visit on the beach. After a romantic stroll along the golden strand, hop in the car and take SH4 highway that passes by the outskirts of Lushnje. It is well worth taking a longer break in the town centre where the small town atmosphere will make you easily forget yourself.
From Lushnje, head south to reach Vlore. After approximately 66 km, you reach your next stopover. On the way, you will have a possibility to visit a small nature reserve which is worth a longer break from the exciting day spent on Albanian roads. What is more? This part of your route will take you along the mesmerising Albanian coast that you can admire through your car window. To reach Vlore, continue your journey along A2 road.
Vlore has a very long history. This interesting coastal resort was first established by the Greeks, but now the city is visited by sunbathers from all over Europe. While in the town, it is worth visiting such places as Kanine Castle or Marmiroi Church. You can also hop in your car to drive to the Karaburun Peninsula, where the Ionian Sea meets the Adriatic Sea. From Vlore, drive south along SH8 road to reach Sarande.
By taking SH8 road to reach Sarande, one of the most popular Albanian seaside resorts, you will have the opportunity to admire stunning views through your car window as SH8 road leads along the Albanian coast. Rocky promontories, pristine beaches, and large waves are the quintessence of this road trip stage. Along the way, you past such small settlements as Borsh or Lukove.
Sarande is a top notch destination for all the lovers of beach vibes. Its beautiful main street will take you along fancy restaurants, ice-cream shops, and bars that are open almost around the clock. Through the opposite car window, you will spot the small bay whose beauty leaves nothing to be desired. From Sarande, you head to Korce, starting your journey back north.
Along the way, you will have the opportunity to take a stopover at a scenic nature reserve. Afterwards, hit SH75 road to reach Korce, a city known mostly for its superb examples of religious edifices, including a mosque and an Orthodox cathedral. Then, you leave by taking E86 road north to reach Pogradec, located around 40 km away.
Pogradec offers a lot in store for the visitors, including Pogradec Castle and Drilon Park. It is an especially picturesque stopover on the map of your road trip. The more so that it is part of a beautiful nature reserve. After a short stopover at Pogradec, you can start your journey north to Elbasan, simply follow the road signs. The town is located roughly 120 km away.
Elbasan is a beautiful small town that is famous for Elbasan Castle, a true jewel for the history lovers. The Tirana Airport, the final stopover during your Albania Grand Tour, is located at a short drive from Elbasan. If you are renting a car, after leaving your vehicle at the airport, you will have only a couple of kilometres separating you from Tirana. There exist plenty of opportunities to get to the city centre from the airport.
After leaving your vehicle at the Tirana Airport and arriving in the capital of Albania, you have the opportunity to soak up its atmosphere by exploring a variety of exciting tourist attractions. To learn more on the city`s past, try visiting the National History Museum, the National Gallery of Arts, and the National Archaeological Museum.
